Deforestation
Deforestation is another concern in Russia’s environmental issues. As logging, both legal and illegal, take place across the country, it brings with it a wide range of environmental problems. With fewer trees, more carbon dioxide is in the air. It also contributes to soil erosion. As the trees are cleared, the sun dries out the soil that was once protected by the trees, and this can lead to an irreversible infertility of the soil. Once the soil has been exposed, heavy rains can wash away the top soil, leading to erosion, flooding, and landslides.
Animal displacement is something few people consider when logging. Many living creatures make their homes in the forest, both the seen and the unseen. Every tree taken down has an impact on the ecosystem as the living creatures who called the tree or its surrounding area home must now find a new one. The loss of a forest can lead to the extinction of the animals that reside there.
